With the promise of warmer weather, people coming out of winter hibernation and more social engagements, we need to be properly stocked with our favourite beverages.
Beer and bubbles say fun, friends and ‘let’s catch up!’.
So here is a list of some of my favourites and the Tabooze tasting panel – yes, they are real people.
A German drop made at the oldest brewery in the world. Sparkling, fresh and highly drinkable – nuances of honey and inviting yeasty notes. Serve this icy cold, and enjoy!
Unlike other breweries, which halt the fermentation process prematurely – our beer is given the time it needs to allow its refreshing flavor to unfold. Subsequently, the alcohol is removed from the beer using falling film evaporation.
Sobah – Lemon Aspen Pilsner
‘From the place of sobriety, comes a truly social drink’. That’s the Sobah tagline and the beer lives up to it. A light, fruity beer from the grapefruit and lychee flavour notes of the native fruit infused within it. The lemon aspen, naturally occurring in Far North QLD throughout the Kuku Yalanji Language Nations lands, is rich in antioxidants and Vitamins A & C. Based on a Czech pale ale, this brew is fresh and citrusy with a distinct hop aroma and flavour. Perfect with any light meal!
Big Drop – Pine Trail Pale Ale
This little drop took out World Best Style Winner at the 2020 World Beer Awards. And we love it too. Rosy floral aromas are immediate as you pour, with a light and limey citrus bite on the palate and a balanced but obvious bitterness to finish. For those who want the details hops used are Magnum, Mosaic & Amarillo.
Side note: If the evening are still a bit cool and you like a stout – check out their Galactic Milk Stout.
Funky Monkey Blanc de Blanc
This was one of the first bubbles presented to the tasting panel. It was received with pleasant surprise from both the ladies and the blokes. Bright and refreshing notes of citrus and apple, with a consistent bead. The Funky Monkey range of wines have been uniquely hand-crafted using only high-quality grapes from premium, dry-grown South Australian vineyards.
Plus and Minus Blanc de Blanc
These zero alcohol wines have been hand-made without the use of any artificial sweeteners but do see the addition of grape skin extract (GSE) during the winemaking process upping the antioxidant factor – alcohol free! These bubbles are gently effervescent, with fresh acidity and a generous mouthfeel. It’s dry, fresh and an unexpected surprise from a sparkling alcohol free drop. This has rated highly with everyone who has tasted – including a few sceptics. Feel free not to moderate!
Edenvale Premium Reserve Sparkling Shiraz
Not usually a fan of sparkling shiraz, this drop blew me out of the water with its rich berries and plum notes, backed by a refreshing effervescence. There are oaky spiced notes with a dry finish. It is quite luscious and looks quite stunning in a stemmed glass.
